Shirley Thorne, 75, of Portsmouth Virginia, passed Wednesday, December 13, 2017. She was born to the late Bella Dodge, May 12, 1942, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Shirley attended I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. She worked as a CNA until she retired in 1993. Shirley enjoyed singing and often did so when she heard a favorite song on the radio. She really loved her grandchildren as well as children. From her birth in 1942 to her death she nourished people around her with love faith and music.

Shirley leaves behind 4 children, Cheryl Laporte, George Laporte, Graylin Laporte, Derek Asher (Sheri Asher). She also is survived by 7 grandchildren, Lorenzo Brown, Deshawn Brown(George), Graylonda Jones, Elizabeth Jones(Graylin), Walter Bowie, Derek Asher Jr., and Ian Munford(Derek); along with aunts, uncles, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

She passed away peacefully in the hospital after a short illness. She will be remembered as an excellent mother, grandmother, and friend.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 12 noon at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
