Shirley A. TomlinsonShirley A. Tomlinson, 88, of Fort Collins, CO. passed away on November 25, 2016. Shirley was born on April 29, 1928 in Great Bend, Kansas to Earl Gilbert and Addie Lee (Stevens) Bardwell. Shirley spent much of her childhood in Great Bend and Nashville, TN until the 9th grade where she stayed in Great Bend. Shirley had a great admiration and respect for southern culture. She graduated from Great Bend High School; she was the basketball homecoming queen and member of the National Honor Society. She was a thoroughbred horse racing fan from the Kentucky Derby to the Triple Crown. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Bill J. Tomlinson, on August 30, 1947 in Great Bend, KS. Shirley was a homemaker and loving mother to their two children David and Barbara. Shirley and her family moved to Loveland, CO in 1966. Shirley spent her time working for Avon, bookkeeping for Albertsons and retiring as a bookkeeper from K-Mart in Loveland. Shirley loved to read and play piano; and when she was younger, she loved tending to her flowers and vegetable gardens. Preceding Shirley in death are her Husband, Bill J. Tomlinson who passed away in December of 1991; Son, David J. Tomlinson; Sister Dorothy and her husband Jake Batchman; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (John) Schroeer; Grandson Matthew Tomlinson and his son Caleb; Granddaughter Katy Youngers and her son Wyatt Youngers; and Nephew Ted (Nancy) Batchman and their family; and Cousin, Don Bybee. Shirley also leaves her wonderful, longtime friend and confidant, Shirley McKee. The family would especially like to recognize the outstanding care of the staff at Columbine West, where Shirley resided until her passing, and three individual caregivers Shirley Cressler, Marynell Kline, and Jan McBroom. Donations in Shirley's memory are appreciated for either the Food Bank of Larimer County or Larimer County Humane Society. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Allnutt Drake Chapel, 650 W. Drake Rd., Fort Collins, CO, 80526.
