Sharon WilliamsPineville/Asheville, NC - Sharon Smathers Williams, age 59, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. She was born on September 23, 1957, in Clyde, NC, to Robert "Bob" Smathers and Betty (Mitchell) Smathers. Sharon spent her childhood in Canton, NC and was an honors student at Brevard College. After spending the majority of her career as an Administrative Processing Assistant for the Children's Developmental Services Agency in Asheville and Hendersonville, she moved to Pineville, NC to be closer to her grandchildren. Her vibrant personality and big smile endeared her to many - she specialized in turning ordinary occurrences into extraordinary adventures! Her interests included: trips to the mountains, good food, long conversations, crime novels, coffee, and her beloved pets. Co-workers were more like friends and her friends were more like family - relationships being most important to her. Left to honor her sweet memory are her daughters; Krista (Williams) Cassidy and Shanna Williams; a son-in-law, Bryan Cassidy; two twin-grandchildren, Anniston and Brayden Cassidy; a brother, Jimmy Smathers; and a niece and nephews, Andrea (Rodgers) Ray, Jeff and Jon Rodgers, and Shawn Smathers. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra (Smathers) Rodgers, and brother, Mitch Smathers. Since her wishes were to be cremated, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Ceremony, on what would have been her 60th birthday, September 23, 2017, at Pink Beds on the Blue Ridge Parkway (1600 Pisgah Highway, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768).
