Sara Anne Johnson, age 101, of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. Born on September 20, 1924 in Falls Church, she was the youngest child of Anne Trammell Thompson and Henry Redfield (known as Spin) Thompson. Sara was known to many since childhood as Betty. After attending James Madison University she taught Art at Swanson Jr. High in Arlington, where a fellow teacher introduced Betty to her brother Cecil Davis Johnson. The two married and Betty left Swanson to raise their family. Together they had three children: Cecilia Diane Pitas (John), Emily Elizabeth Hawes (Michael), and Davis Scott Johnson (Beth). Betty enjoyed hiking, camping, wildlife, gardening, sewing clothing and quilts, reading, crosswords, Wordle, and following the news right through her 101st year. She is survived by her three children and her grandchildren: JH and Nicholas Pitas (Kirstin Gebhart); Rawls, Sarah (Brendan McCarthy), and Scott Hawes; Phillip, Leah, Aer, and Richard Johnson; and five great grandchildren. Sara Anne Thompson Johnson will be laid to rest in the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church where several generations of her family can be found.
