Ruth M. AllenFebruary 21, 1925 - April 3, 2014Ruth M. Allen, 89, of Pocatello formerly of Grace, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014.Ruth was born on February 21, 1925 in Bennington, Idaho the daughter of Irvin and Lula Thornock Mouritsen.She graduated from Montpelier High School and furthered her education in Logan, Utah in the Nurses Training Program.Ruth married F.A. Junior Allen on November 15, 1945 in Pocatello, ID. Their marriage was latter solemnized in Salt Lake City Temple on April 10, 1950. She and Junior farmed in Grace, ID most of their lives except for short stays in Arizona and Montana. After her husband's death in 1974 she served an LDS Mission in Lansing, Michigan. She also served as Temple officiator, visiting teacher, ward choir director, Grace extracting director and as Sunday school teacher. Ruth cared for her elderly mother and her sister, Irene for many years. We will always remember her as a gentle, kind-hearted self-sacrificing woman, who spent her life serving and caring for others. Ruth enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, quilting and was a loyal Jazz fan. She loved her family and spending time with them. She is survived by one daughter & two sons, Janice & Boyd Schvaneveldt of Pocatello, ID, Stephen & Bev Allen of Vancouver, WA, Blake & Meg Allen of Pocatello, ID. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Leonard Mouritsen of Darby, MT, Roy Mouritsen of Salmon Arms, BC, and a sister Marie Rennaker of Creston, Alberta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Allen, a brother LeGrand Mouritsen and a sister Irene Johnson.Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs and on Tuesday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.simsfh.com.
