We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Russell Hughes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Russell was born on September 20, 1952, in McRae-Helena, Georgia to Russell Hughes Sr and Myrtise Dorsey. He married the love of his life, Betty Kates Hughes, in 1978, and together they raised a beautiful family.

Russell is survived by his five children: Tocarra McMillan, Nikki Hughes, Tamika Kates, “Rusty” Russell Hughes, and Andrea (his most honored godchild) with spouse Billy. He was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren. He had two siblings Christine and Willy. With a host of nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Central High School in 1971, Russell continued his studies at Fort Valley State. He worked as a Truck Driver for many years before retiring in 2020. In his free time, Russell enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Russell will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of everyone he met and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
