Roy Eugene MelickZANESVILLE: Roy Eugene Melick , 87 of Zanesville died at 11:37am Thursday, November 07, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center following a short illness.He was born on October 11, 1926 in Perry County, Ohio the son of H. Oden and Esther Harlan Melick.Roy was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he was active in a variety of activities with the school, especially with fundraising and the festival. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a self-employed homebuilder for over 60 years. He was considered a true master builder, having built many beautiful homes and gained a new family of friends from each one. Roy was an avid basketball fan and coached the St. Nicholas Flyers 7th & 8th grade team for over 10 years. He enjoyed all sports, bowling, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and sitting in his back yard visiting with his neighbors and friends. He is survived by four children Mike Melick of Zanesville, Pat (Beth) Melick of Powell, Karin "Cissie" (Terry) Kopchak of Zanesville and Kevin (Shari) Melick of Zanesville. 13 grandchildren, Michael Melick, Matt Melick, Andrew Melick, Rachael Melick, Jesse Melick, Pat Melick, Nick Melick, Maddie Melick, Kris "Topher" Kopchak and Katie Kopchak, Steph Melick, Abby Melick and Sarah Melick; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Preceded in death in addition to his parents were his wife of over 50 years, Helen "Squirt" Berkfield Melick, and brother Richard Melick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am today, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. Burdette N. Peterson officiating. Burial will conclude at the Mt. Olive Cemetery , East Pike, Zanesville.In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Nationwide Children's Hospital or the Genesis Morrison House Hospice.
