Rosie Cardenas, 90, of Glendale, Arizona, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 19, 2009. She was born on March 27, 1919 in Yuma to Frank Sr. and Felicitas Varela. Rosie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, great-nana, sister, and aunt. She married Gary Cardenas in 1951 and they made their home in Yuma until 1985 when they moved to the Phoenix area. Rosie is survived by her four sons, James (Teri) of Phoenix, Arizona, Billy (Debbie) of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Fred (Maria) of Glendale, and Edward (Robbie) of Long Beach, California; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Rosie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Cardenas; her parents, Frank Sr. and Felicitas Varela; brothers, Frank and Henry Varela. Rosie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A viewing will be held at Johnsons Mortuary on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A celebration Mass will be held at St. Francis Church on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church or Yuma Catholic High School.
