Ronda Kay ParkerSeptember 22, 1939 - August 11, 2015Ronda Kay Parker, 75 passed away peacefully Aug. 11, 2015, in Providence after a valiant battle with brain cancer. She was born on Sept. 22, 1939, in Logan, Utah, to Zeltha Humphreys and LaGrand Smith Mathews. The eldest of eight children, she grew up in Millville on a dairy farm/mink ranch where she learned the value of hard work. She often cared for her six younger brothers and one younger sister, coordinating the chores and responsibilities on the farm. She learned her cooking skills from a master, her mother. The training she received in these younger years formed her work ethic for a lifetime. She attended Millville Elementary, running home from school every day because she felt like she was flying. She participated as a cheerleader and played in the band at South Cache High where she also began her courtship with Jon Stauffer Parker, who she married Nov. 20, 1958, in the Logan LDS Temple. They have five children, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who have blessed their lives.Over the years, Ronda performed masterful handiwork and owned and operated a successful drapery business. She loved quilting and shared that talent with many people. The family members and guests in her home would frequently need to navigate around the quilting tables set up in the home, yet all were thrilled to benefit from her talents when enjoying the finished product. She was most happy when surrounded by her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite activity was spending time with family, and she looked forward to holidays, particularly Christmas, when she would have the house artfully decorated and full of her posterity. She loved Disneyland and looked for every opportunity she could to visit the park with her family. She and Jon enjoyed traveling and collected teddy bears wherever they went. Whenever possible, she would spend time in her flower garden. She was particularly known for her begonias. Throughout her life, Ronda was very service-oriented, doing so much for others but never wanting any credit. She instilled the love of the Lord in all her family. She is a woman of unwavering faith and was never afraid of difficult tasks.Ronda served faithfully in the LDS Church in various ward and stake capacities. She loved her service with her husband in the Logan and St. George temples.Ronda is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Jon and her children: Shiree (Scott) Nixon, Shelly (Bryon) Hugie, Troy (Katrina), Trisha (Rod) Cheal, and Mathew (Tanalyn); her six brothers and sister; 17 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held starting at noon at the Cobblestone 2nd Ward, Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, located at 420 W. 100 North, Providence.
