Ronald F. PixleyRon was born on February 15, 1932 in Indianapolis, In. to Orrin C. Pixley and Marie (Riedel) Pixley. He died on Friday March 3, 2017 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN after several years of increasingly failing health.Ron's education began at St. Joan of Arc parochial school, continued at St. Joseph's boarding school in Bardstown, Ky. and Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. He enlisted at an early age in the United States Navy and was assigned to the battleship USS New Jersey which saw combat in the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon, the United States Service Ribbon and the Korean Services Medal. Ron had the opportunity to spend time in Japan and later rehabbed a shipboard injury in a naval hospital in California before returning to Indianapolis to finish his diploma.Ron found employment at Sperry Rail and later at Dodd Electric and Keystone Lighting as an electrician. Ron was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping and caving. He enjoyed cooking old recipes and his specialty to bring to family gatherings was always cheesecake. He lived more than forty years in his apartment in Nora Pines, only leaving when he became too ill to live unassisted. His most recent residence was at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville after a few years at Northridge Retirement Center where he required frequent hospitalizations for recurring problems.The family would like to thank Riverwalk Village and Northridge Retirement for their compassionate care.Ron's survivors include his sister Joan M. (Pixley) Dodd, nephews Larry Dodd (Jill) and Dale Dodd (Sherrie), Grand-nieces Sara Knight (Chris), Dusty Doerr (Eric) and Dede Storms (Steve), and Great-grand- nephews Jacob Eastman, Mason and Ethan Doerr, and Royce Knight.Memorial contributions in Ron's name may be made to the Paralyzed Veteran's of America ( PVA.org) or you favorite cause.Calling for Ron will be at Leppert Mortuary, 740 East 86th Street, on Saturday March 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., with a memorial service following.
