Young, RogerRoger A. Young, 71, Wittenberg, died on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.He was born on August 18, 1945 in Wausau, the son of the late Howard and Edeline (Liesch) Young. Roger was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post # 502 Roger was united in marriage to Luella Young (Giese) on May 8, 1976 at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda. She survives.Roger worked at Kraft for several years and then worked for the Central Wisconsin Electric Coop for many years until retirement. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Wittenberg Fire Department, a deputy for the Shawano County Sherriff's Department, a special for the Department of Natural Resources and former Animal Control officer for the town of Wittenberg. Roger was treasurer for the Wittenberg Trailblazers, the Red Knights and the Wittenberg Fish and Game Club. He was president of Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg and served on the board for St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. An avid motorcyclist, Roger was a member of the Patriot Guard, Friends on Wheels and 1800 Honda Goldwing Riders Association. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and snowmobiling.Survivors include wife Luella Young, Wittenberg; two children, Randy (Angie) Young, Kronenwetter, Kathy Young, Wittenberg; two grandchildren Addison and Reece Young; three sisters Jeanette Kamke, Florida, Yvonne (Everett) Melnick, Florida and Judy Batty, Hoffman Estates, IL and many more relatives and friends.Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother in-laws John Batty and Lance Kamke and his beloved dog, Lady.The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Rev. Michael Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be from 4PM to 8PM on Tuesday at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home Wittenberg and again on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
