Roberta Rose Kline (76) of Longmont, CO died at home surrounded by family and under hospice care on March 2, 2017. She was born on January 28, 1941 at the family farm in Ford County, KS to Calvin Amos and Grace Fanny (Harzmann) Paxson. Roberta was a 1958 graduate of Cheyenne County High School in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS, for two years before marrying Maynard William Kline, Jr. on June 20, 1960, in Salina, KS. She was married for 17 years and lived in Florida, California, Kentucky, and Colorado. Their marriage produced four children: Sharlyn Y. (David) Peterson, Steven R., Maynard D., and Paul E. Kline. Roberta earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado and taught school in Bucklin, KS. Later, she returned to school at Dodge City Community College to become a licensed practical nurse. She enjoyed working at Hill Top House in Bucklin, KS, and the Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, KS, for many years before moving to Lusk, WY, to be near her daughter's family. In Lusk, she continued working as a nurse at Niobrara County Nursing Home and Wyoming Women's Center. She retired in 2006 and moved back to Longmont, CO, where she lived among friends at the Longs Peak Residence community. She is survived by her sister, Virginia (Dick) Near, her four children, 10 grandchildren: Steven, Crystal, Katy, Mitchell (Megan), Justice, and Cooper Kline; Taylor (Neil) Malenke, Sonja Luckow, Laura and Bradley Peterson; 7 great-grandchildren: Akira and Ahlli Vance, Bella Dae and Brecken Coleman, Zander and Tyson Luckow, and Adelaide Malenke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth (Wanda) Paxson, and three sisters: Mildred (Robert) Pinkney, Betty (Marion) Stout, and Rebecca (Norman) Knight. As per her wishes, Roberta's ashes will be planted with a tree in a Longmont park later this spring. Roberta planted trees everywhere she lived and cherished their shade and birdsong. A similar memorial will occur on the grounds of her childhood family farm in Ford County, KS.
