MAPLEWOOD — Robert L. "Bob" Mitchell, 82, of Maplewood, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at 1:10 a.m. at Lane Park of Sidney.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1934, in Green Township, Ohio, the son of the late Clayton and Beulah (Jackson) Mitchell.

Bob is survived by three children, Debra (Tim) Knief, of Lewistown, Ohio, Gary Mitchell, of Jackson Center, and Bruce Mitchell, of Sidney; best friends, Kathy Sherman, of Houston, and Ben and Loretta Wehner, of Wapakoneta; grandchildren, David (Tanya) and Susan Knief, Dustin (Patty) Mitchell and Trentney Mitchell; two sisters, Lois Jean Bell, of Florida, and Bernice, of Florida; and one sister in-law, Marvelene Mitchell, of Sidney.

One brother, Richard Mitchell and one sister, Janet Akin preceded him in death.

Bob was a U.S. Korean War veteran. He was in the 50th Tank Battalion, stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was never deployed. Bob worked 18 years at the former G.A. Smalley Inc. in Sidney and for 25 years in the maintenance department for the village of Jackson Center. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. His family, especially his son, Gary and grandson, Dustin were proud of Bob's having been the first player in Shelby County basketball history to score 1000 points. Bob was a true outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter and woodsman.

A celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice Care and Shelby County Veterans Services in Bob's memory.
