Robert (Bob) John Gerard Jacob, 77, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away in his home September 21, 2020 with his family by his side.

Robert was born on June 24, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY. Where he grew up in Edgewater Park. After graduating from Evander Childs HS, Bob then attended King's College, New York University, C.W. Post College, Rockefeller University, University of Syracuse and the University of Chicago.

After completing his PhD, he moved to Lexington, KY in 1978 with Gretchen and their three boys (Jason, Shawn and Jordan). There, he became a Professor of Microbology and Immunology at the University of Kentucky from 1978-2015, teaching medical and dental students. He also had a strong passion for research, where he mentored an abundance of students with an interest in the field. In his time of research, he obtained many historic findings, awards and publications. Making sure that his work meant something to the world and more importantly to his students.

Besides science though, he had many hobbies: traveling with Gretchen, spending time with his family and friends, gathering collectibles, fishing and boating. But still, we all know that his favorite of hobbies was collecting and admiring cars. Especially corvettes.

Yet no matter how successful he was in the lab or in his hobbies, he maintained his top priority as his faith. It was made clear through his daily walk that his relationship with the Lord was the most important aspect in his life. A close second, being his relationships within his family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Gretchen Jacob as well as Jason (Tamme) Jacob, Shawn (Lori) Jacob and (Nicole) Jacob. He's also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Kyle Wesley, Haven Glen, Skylar Renee’, Robert Harrison and Hannah Blakely.

His death preceded the passing of his son Jordan Jacob and his parents John and Mildred Jacob.
