Robert Burleigh Roof, 84, of 2785 River Road, Wysox, Standing Stone Township, Pa., passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 10, 2016 at his home, following declining health. Robert was born on Nov. 8, 1932 in Towanda, Pa., the son of Burleigh Lee Roof and Effie Whipple Roof. He was a graduate of Towanda High School Class of 1953 and in early years was employed by several area farms.Robert was a well-known general contractor, operating his building and remodeling business for 40 years until retirement. Robert was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda, Wysox-Sheshequin Grange No. 58, the Relax Square Dancing Club of Elmira, N.Y., the PEN-NY Promenader's Square Dance Club of Sayre, and in prior years served as a 4-H Leader. Robert and his wife Mary Jane proudly served as foster grandparents for many years. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and caring for his animals on the family farm.He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Whipple Roof; children, Bryan Keith (Bea0 Roof of Litchfield, Robert Lee Roof (Crystal Hunsinger) of Standing Stone, Dawn Marie (Tom) Stump of Standing Stone, Tara Jane Roof (Jamie Castle) of Canton, Kaitlyn Marie Ann Roof of Standing Stone, Katrina Joleen Roof of Standing Stone, Joni (Gene) Gray of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jani (Tony) Ridenour of Wyalusing; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Mae Lundy of Towanda, Sarah (Thomas) Cornell of Binghamton, N.Y., Joanne (Roy Jr.) King of Natchaz, Mis.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Shanise Bennett; great-granddaughter, Emma Nevaeh Robinson; daughter-in-law, Stacy Marie Roof; and sister, Dorothy Jane Taylor.A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with the Rev.
