Robert Wilson, a devoted husband, father, brother and friend known for his quick wits, smile and ability to never back down. He was born on December 13, 1932 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and transitioned on June 13, 2025 in Upper Marlboro, MD at the age of 92.
Robert was the beloved son of Horace and Eloise Wilson. He was a loving husband to Janet Wilson, whom he married in the year 1958. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Rodney Ellis, Angela Smith (spouse James), John Wilson (spouse Tammy), Lorraine Wilson, and Edward Wilson (spouse Linda). Robert was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren. Michael, John Jr, Renee, Rodney II, Tina, Freda, Eddie, and Latoya. As well as a uncle and cousin to many other relatives.
Robert attended Frank Evans High School and graduated in 1950. He then went on to continue his studies at the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1954 with a degree in engineering. Soon after graduating college Robert moved from South Carolina to Washington D.C. for a better life than what the south had to offer. He dedicated many years of service to the Smithsonian (the castle and Natural History) before retiring in 1998.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, drag racing, grilling, and working on his fleet of cars. He was known for his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. He was a fan of the New York Knicks and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Robert Wilson will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his family, and zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May he rest in peace, knowing that he leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
