Robert Earl Nixon, was born on October 5, 1946, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to the late Jessie Mae Collins and Kildrain Nixon.
He attended Taylorville High School and, in 1992, married Mary Nixon. Together they built a blended family, blessed with six children.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army from June 1965 to August 1968. He was a Sergeant E5 in Company B, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, where he was known as a strong and capable leader. On January 1, 1968, while serving in Vietnam, Robert was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. Throughout the years, he remained active in fellowship with other Purple Heart recipients.
At an early age, Robert joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Eastabuchie. Later in life, he recommitted himself to Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. Steven Hawthorne and faithfully served as head deacon under Rev. Anthony Barney until his passing.
Robert departed this life on August 23, 2025. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 30 years, Frances Nixon; four sons, Robert (Sonya) Nixon, Jr., Dariel Thomas, Semetrius Nixon, and Dariel Nixon, Jr., all of Hattiesburg, MS; two daughters, Jessica Pugh of Murfreesboro, TN, and Samayah Nixon of Hattiesburg, MS; four grandchildren, Zamber Pugh, Zalaia Pugh , Jaedrick Pugh and Zyobei Pugh, all of Murfreesboro TN and Corey D’Shaune of Aubrey, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Cryer of Aubrey, TX, and Chloe Nicole Nixon of Houston, TX.
He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Kathy Beasley; a brother-in-law, Marshall (Carolyn) Watson; four nieces, Shauna (Henry) Flowers, Maria (Robert) Barnes, Melissa Richardson, and Natasha Richardson; and two nephews, Jarvis Richardson and Jessie James Richardson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jessie James Nixon; and two sisters, Annie Marie Richardson and Donnie Elaine Glass.
Robert will be remembered for his service, leadership, faith, and the love he poured into his family and community.
