Celebration of Life

Robbie Cantrell, 73, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2023. Born on December 20, 1949, Robbie had a knack for bringing joy and laughter into the lives of those around her.Robbie was a true Alabamian, with a spirit as vibrant as the crimson tide. She attended Ramsay High School, where she managed to graduate in 1967, despite spending most of her time perfecting her sarcastic wit. Her fellow schoolmates will always remember her as the class comedian, always quick with a witty one-liner during algebra class. After completing her education, Robbie went on to work for the State of Alabama. When asked about her job, she would often respond with her trademark humor, saying, "I'm just doing what the state tells me, and believe me, honey, they tell me a lot!" Her pranks and well-timed jokes kept her colleagues entertained, even during the most mundane tasks. In addition to her career, Robbie was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church organization, providing her unique brand of laughter and entertainment at every church gathering. She never missed an opportunity to turn a solemn church service into a room full of laughter, much to the dismay of the more serious-minded individuals. Robbie firmly believed that a little humor could bring people closer to God, even if it meant enduring some disapproving glares.Robbie married the love of her life, Don Cantrell, in 1974, and their love story was something out of a sitcom. Don was her partner in mischief, always ready to add another punchline to her jokes. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Gerry, Jack, Debbie, and Cindy. Robbie's humorous spirit lives on in each of them, whether they like it or not.Robbie's legacy of laughter extends beyond her children, as she was also blessed with nine grandchildren. Their lives will forever be filled with stories of their legendary grandmother and the endless laughter she brought into their lives. In her spare time, Robbie enjoyed playing practical jokes, telling corny puns, and attending comedy shows. Nothing delighted her more than seeing people laugh uncontrollably, even if it meant being on the receiving end of a prank every now and then. Her mischievous spirit and contagious humor will be sorely missed by all who knew her.As we say goodbye to Robbie Cantrell, let us remember her not with tears, but with laughter. Let us celebrate her life by sharing stories that will make us smile, just as she always did. In Robbie's words, "Life is too short to be serious all the time, so go ahead and laugh until your tears become a punchline of their own!"
