Richard Martin Tisinger, Jr., 83, of Los Alamos died Jan. 28, 2013 at the University of New Mexico Medical Center of pancreatic cancer.Mr. Tisinger was born on Oct. 26, l929 in Harrisonburg, Va., the son of the late Richard M. and Irma O. Tisinger. His early childhood was spent in Phoenix where his father was in the Department of the Interior. During World War II, the family moved to Oregon where he graduated from Salem High School in l947. He attended Reed College in Portland and graduated with a major in physics in l951. Following a year of graduate study at the University of Washington he moved to Los Alamos in l952 to work at LASL. Later he attended Johns Hopkins University where he received his doctorate in nuclear physics in 1963. He retired from LANL where he worked in the field of nuclear physics transitioning later in his career to software development in database management and material accountability.In l955 he married Ellen Goodell. Their 45 year marriage lasted until her death in 2000. They had three children: Rick Tisinger of Dallas, Eric Tisinger of Phoenix, and Karen Rose of Albuquerque. He has seven grandchildren. During his lifetime he was active in the affairs of the United Church of Los Alamos, the Red Cross, the Retirees Group of the Los Alamos Lab, and the Los Alamos Ski Patrol. He was an Eagle Scout and served several roles for the regional organization of the Boy Scouts of America in Los Alamos. He loved to travel and see the United States with his family. Along with visiting all 50 states, he travelled abroad visiting countries in North America, Central America, Europe, and Asia.He is survived by his three children, their spouses, grandchildren, and his sister, Catherine Tisinger of Winchester, Va. He was cremated, to join his wife in the United Church courtyard. He was a wonderful father and will be missed.There will be a memorial service held at 2pm Sunday the 24th at the United Church of Los Alamos.
