This obituary is administered by:
Richard M. TaylorRichard M. Taylor, 83, Newtown, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, after several years of failing health. He was born on April 28, 1934, to the late Cecil and Delores (Butcher) Taylor in West Lebanon. Due to circumstance, he learned the value of hard work, having to leave school at a young age. He worked a variety of jobs, primarily in farming, construction, automotive painting and finally as the lead painter at the DriAll grain dryer company. In 1978, after a serious fall which nearly claimed his life, he left DriAll and raised cattle for many years. On July 23, 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Sandra Lee Wall. She survives. The two were inseparable, spending many years together traveling to the Indianapolis 500, the Brickyard 400, the Indiana State Fair and to Ft. Myers, Fla. to visit Sandy's dad and step-mom. They also loved to help organize the Attica Potawatomi Festival. In their younger years, they enjoyed square dancing, as well as racing in (and winning) the popular Road Rallies. Together they made their life and family at their old homestead just west of Newtown on State Road 55.Richard was so proud of all his family and he always looked forward to the Taylor family reunions, the last of which he hosted on August 26, 2017.Richard enjoyed listening to and singing country music, pretty women, big cars - particularly Cadillacs and his Lincoln Town Car - and a hot plate of biscuits and real sausage gravy with coffee. He loved watching the Colts, Purdue football and basketball, NASCAR, Fountain Central and Attica football and basketball and Bi-County soccer.Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sandy; their three children, Jeffery (Stacey), Chris (Sally) and April; four grandchildren, Taryn (Cory) Gay, Isaac, Henry Dale and Ozzy; and two great-grandchildren, Zander and Gavin Gay. He is also survived by many very special nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Tom, Ralph, Dave and Kenny; and one sister, Ruth Doyle.Maus Funeral Home of Attica has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Newtown Community Church. Services will take place at 3 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Mike Parks and CJ Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Union Christian Cemetery southwest of Newtown on Aylesworth Road.Memorial gifts may be made to Newtown Community Church, P.O. Box 38, Newtown, IN 47969.Richard's family would like to extend their gratitude to the many wonderful nurses of his Great Lakes Caring hospice team, his doctors and nurses in the IU Health Arnett network, the St. Vincent Hospital at Williamsport, all his friends and neighbors, his Newtown Community Church family and especially Pastor Mike Parks.
