McKnight, Richard E. "Dick" passed away on October 9, 2016, in Portland, OR. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 10, 1929, in Colman, SD, to Edward and Edna McKnight. He was raised on a ranch outside Edgemont, SD. Dick served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 - 1954. He obtained his business degree from the National College of Business, Rapid City, SD. His career was in the banking and trust planning business. He was very active in many charitable organizations such as the Children's Village, American Red Cross, Rotary, and American Lutheran Church. He served in several capacities on the Board of Directors for the Sun Health Organization in Sun City, AZ. Dick was married to Ellen Hoehne from 1950 - 1978. He has two daughters, Jari (Jim Hamers), and Cyndi (Murphy Fontenot). He has lived in Arizona since 1979. He was married to Valerie Lapham from 1990 until her death in 2003. Dick married Shirley Smith in 2006, and was welcomed into her warm and close family. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Art. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters Jari and Cyndi, granddaughters Anne Todd and Christine White, and great grandson Warren Todd, brothers John McKnight and Jim McKnight, and sister Reva Whipple. A memorial service will be at American Luther Church, 17200 North Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
