Richard Cary CONLEY Obituary

May 26, 1925 - Sep 09, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
CONLEY, Richard Cary October 25, 1927 - September 9, 2016 CONLEY, Dora Stornetta May 26, 1925 - December 5, 2016 Richard "Dick" Cary Conley was born on Oct. 25, 1927 in Petaluma, CA to Archie and Helen (Cary) Conley. Dora Stornetta Conley was born on May 26, 1925 in Point Arena, CA to George and Rose (Bavo) Stornetta. Dick enlisted in the Army as a Private and served as a Seaman in the Coast Guard during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1947. Dick and Dora married in Reno, NV and had 62 wonderful years as husband and wife. They began their married life in Point Arena where he was a logger. Later they moved to Stonyford, CA where Dick logged; they also had a cattle ranch where they both worked side by side. In 1966 they bought a beautiful ranch along the Payette River in Emmett, ID and raised steers. Returning to California in 1973, they farmed walnuts and Fuji persimmons in Colusa, CA. In 1985, they retired to Diamond Springs, CA and spent several months a year traveling in their fifth wheel around the United States. Dick loved to fish, watch boxing or almost any sports, but his heart always belonged to the S.F. Giants and 49ers. Dora loved cooking, gardening, bowling, sewing and crocheting, for her many grandchildren. Dick passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2016 with Dora, his son Charles and his caregiver Sheila by his side while watching the Giants baseball game, which they won in the 12th inning. Dora joined him less than three months later, on December 5, 2016, in their home with many loving family members by her side. Dick and Dora are survived by their children: Diana Rosa (Mike); Barbara Ahern (John); Kenny Iversen; Steven Conley; and Charles Conley (Donna Ellison); 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; Dora's sisters Mable Caito and Butch Gilroy; and many other loving family members. They were preceded in death by Dick's brother Vrain Conley, and Dora's brothers Henry and Norman Stornetta. Dick was a kind and gentle man who always welcomed everyone with a warm smile. He was a rare and humble man who made the world a better place with his intelligence and curiosity. He had the sweetest tooth and never left the dinner table without having dessert. Dora was happiest doing something for her family. Her daughters and granddaughters have their special ceramic Christmas trees, made by Dora, set up to celebrate the season and her. They were dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew them. Friends are invited to join the family at a memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, 3:00 p.m., at Mission San Rafael Arcangel, 1104 Fifth Ave., San Rafael, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakota (Sioux) Children, St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326.
