Ray Z. Lopez, 89, of San Francisco, California, died July 27, 2014 peacefully, at home, with his family by his side. He was born to Refugio and Victoria (Zarate) Lopez, July 10, 1925, in Visalia, California. He married Mary (Ahumada ) Lopez on December 18, 1948 and resided in San Francisco. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Ray served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946 and always remained true to the motto “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” He worked at The American Can Company and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) until he retired. He dedicated over 40 years to the Church of the Epiphany and helped in founding their Hispano Americano group. Ray enjoyed baseball and was a longtime, avid and loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants.

Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was dedicated to his family. He was loved by everyone who crossed his path and the patriarch of his family. His generosity, caring spirit and humor will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Manuel, Fernando, Henry, and Jesse and survived by his wife Mary and their 5 children: Dave (Lil) of Walnut Creek, Tony (Cecelia) of Millbrae, Bob (Anna) of Burlingame, Esther (Fred) of Vallejo, Vickie of South San Francisco, and Mike (Jean) of Winters, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A special thanks to St Mary’s Hospital, DaVita Dialysis Center, Sutter Care at Home and Sutter Hospice, who all helped to ease Ray’s burden.
