Ray CarlsonNovember 12, 1940 - October 24, 2015passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.Ray was born on November 12, 1940 in Pocatello, Idaho to Earl C. Carlson and Isabell Stocking. He graduated from Pocatello High School. After graduation Ray joined the Navy where he served honorably for two years.He married Toni Francis and to this union two daughters were born, Lori and Quincee.After his military service Ray attended I.S.U. where he graduated with a business degree. To put himself through school Ray worked for the Forest Service.On July 8, 1967 Ray married Sherma Butler and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Ray loved to work and see projects come to life. He managed the Fashion Bar and Mr. C's. He also managed Modern Mills in Rockford for over 15 years. When Modern Mills was sold Ray took a leap and started Moreland Grain. Ray loved his business and the opportunities it gave him to make many lasting friendships with the local farmers. Ray loved "his" farmers. Ray was a member of the LDS Church where he served in many callings. He served in the bishopric, as a high council member, but his favorite callings were those with the youth. He loved working in the young mens but has held a special place in his heart for his nursery kids. Ray has enjoyed watching the youth he taught grow up. He and his wife Sherma have worked as temple workers since 2002 and served an LDS mission in Nauvoo in 2010.He loved caring for sheep and his horses and would go and ride every chance he had with the "Over the Hill Gang" on their weekly outings. Ray loved antique cars and riding Rzrs and four-wheelers with his family and grandkids.Ray is survived by his wife Sherma, of Blackfoot, his daughters, Lori Salisbury, of Bend, OR, Shellie (Zane) Jensen, of Pingree, ID, Suzanne (Bret) Butler, of Missoula, MT, Quincee (Buzz) Cotton, of Boulder, CO, and Darcie Martin, of Blackfoot, ID, his brothers, Joe (Melba) Carlson of, Orem, UT, Rod (Martha) Carlson, of Hailey, ID, his sisters, Leslee (Dennis) Stoddard, of Pocatello, ID, and Teresa (Randy) Merica, of Pocatello, ID, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Isabell, and two grandchildren, Shay and Lucie Jensen.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 29, 2015 at the Blackfoot North West Stake Center, 95 N 740 W. A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S Shilling Ave., and again one hour prior to the services at the stake center.
