Ray C. GuntiHilton Head, SCRay C. Gunti, "Papa" to his grandchildren, passed away on June 14, 2017 at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina after a prolonged battle with dementia. Ray was born on March 10,1943 in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Holy Names Elementary School, Christian Brothers High School and graduated from Christian Brothers College in 1965. Ray studied accounting and earned his CPA. He started his career with Arthur Andersen in Memphis and later moved to Atlanta to join Southern Telephone Supply Company. He enjoyed a highly successful career with the company eventually becoming President of Alltel Supply, which the company would later be known. Ray lived in Dunwoody, Georgia with his family for 30 years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and then a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and an active member of the Atlanta Athletic Club where he was elected to the Board of Directors from 1996-2002 and served as a volunteer for several PGA Championships held there. When Ray retired, he and his wife Alison moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina where they have lived for the past 15 years. While golf was his passion since a young age, he also loved to travel and sample grand hotels and cuisine with Alison. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Edward Gunti and Ruth Kremer Gunti, both of Memphis, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alison Bennett Gunti, three children and their spouses, and six grandchildren: Charlotte and Chris Franklin (Caroline, Lauren and Anna Franklin), Charles and Erin Gunti (Bennett and James Gunti) and Candice Gunti (Sophia Marcotte) and his brother, Col. Charles Gunti OFM. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Francis by the Sea in Hilton Head, South Carolina on June 30, 2017 at 3:00 PM with Fr. Charles Gunti, his brother, officiating.
