MEDWAY Randy Blackaby, 61 of Medway,OH died Thursday night unexpectedly. He was born on March 27, 1951 in Dayton, OH, the oldest son of James R. and Audie Blackaby. He married Karen Louise Sellers on March 15, 1975, who survives. They had four sons who survive Joshua and (Shawn) Blackaby of Louisville, KY; Josiah and (Melissa) Blackaby of Xenia; Ezra and (Stephanie) Blackaby also of Xenia; and Amos Blackaby of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren William Blackaby of Louisville; Ethan and Landon Blackaby and Bridget Funderburg of Xenia; Jayden, Reagan, Kamryn and Gavin Blackaby of Xenia. Also surviving are a brother, Kerry and (Sheryl) Blackaby and a sister Brenda Santos, both of Xenia. He was minister at the New Carlisle Church of Christ, where he also served as an elder. Before becoming a minister, he worked at The Xenia Daily Gazette becoming the managing editor before leaving. He helped the Gazette win the Pulitzer Prize for reporting the 1974 Xenia tornado. Services will be held on 10 am Tuesday Jan. 8 at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
