Peter John Murphy, age 72, of Oscoda and formerly of Clio passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital.Peter was born on Nov. 13, 1937, in Flint to Bernard Francis and Mabel Doris (nee Langlois) Murphy. He graduated from Flint Central High School, Class of 1956. After school, Peter proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958, stationed mostly in Norfolk, Va. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he married his dear wife, Beverly Ann (nee Casselman), on April 24, 1959, in Flint. Together, they celebrated 51 beautiful years of marriage. He worked for Buick Corporation in Flint as a skilled tradesman for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of Local No. 599 in Flint. Peter was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 4285 in Mt. Morris and also the 4th Degree Council. He was an active member at the Oscoda Yacht Club and was a past commodore of the club, too. Peter was also a past member of the Lake Huron Sportfishing Association. Peter found much satisfaction in his retirement years, especially relaxing and enjoying the beauties of nature from his house on the lake. He truly loved the outdoors and activities such as sailing, fishing, hunting and feeding and watching the many birds around his home. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Beverly; four children, Debbie (Steve) LaFon of Davison, Jim Murphy of Montrose, Patrick Murphy of Sterling Heights and Susan Murphy of Flushing; five grandchildren, Josh, Katie, Zachary, Jonathan and Jared; and one great-granddaughter, Katie. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Julie Murphy. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his family received friends at Buresh Funeral Home, Oscoda chapel, on Monday. The Knights of Columbus prayed the rosary that evening at the funeral home. A funeral Mass for Peter was held on Tuesday, June 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda with the Rev. Fr.
