We celebrate the life of Penny Mattingly, who is now with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She was born on June 8, 1963, to Irwin and Shirley Swartz Sprunger.
Penny is survived by her loving spouse, Ken Mattingly, whom she married on July 7th, 2007. Together, they raised six children: Tabitha Ore (spouse Allan), Jeremiah Mendiola, Elijah Mendiola (spouse Yvette), Sarah Serrano (spouse Rudy), Cori Ventura (spouse Jose), and Claire Base. She was also a beloved grandmother to 15 grandchildren.
Penny is preceded in death by her father, her son Jeremiah Mendiola and her exhusband Eddie Mendiola who blessed her with their 4 children.
She attended Flour Bluff High School. Penny then pursued her studies at South Texas Bible Institute, graduating in 2014.
Penny was a family service counselor with Memory Gardens Corpus Christi, Texas, Seaside Funeral Home and cemetery. She started this career in 2005. Her hard work and dedication at Rose Hill Memorial park were recognized when she was awarded the prestigious Pinnacle Club award. It was her heart to treat the families she served as she would her own family, paying close attention to their needs and doing her best to comfort them during the most difficult time of their lives.
Penny also taught Sunday school and lead women’s Bible studies at her church. Serving the Lord was the most important work of her life.
Outside of work, Penny enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at home and traveling with them. painting and reading in her spare time. She was known for her creative spirit and love for people.
Our dear Penny will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering faith, and unconditional love for her family. She loved sharing the love of Christ with anyone that would listen. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished forever.
