Long time Juneau resident Peggy Mulligan died in Juneau Alaska on Dec. 12 at the age of 91. Peggy was born on March 4, 1921 to Tom and Pearl Lee of Hood River Oregon. After graduating High school Peggy worked at the Naval Ship Yard in Vancouver, Washington until enlisting in the Navy in 1943. She was stationed at Pearl Harbor until 1946. In 1947 she and her cousin Jean Eby Crosby came to Juneau on board the S.S. Aleutian. Peggy worked at the Corps of Engineers at the Sub-Port and the Bureau of Mines on Mayflower Island. She married John J. Mulligan in Juneau in 1956. They lived in the former Officers Quarters log house on Duck Creek. John, Peggy & family moved to Douglas in 1962. Peggy was active in the PTA and helped lobby the Legislature to fund Kindergarten in Alaska. Peggy worked for the Legislature from 1971-1987, the last 11 years as Senate Secretary. She is proceeded in death by her husband John Mulligan, sisters Deed Vierthaler of Juneau and Ely Nolan of Tillamook Oregon, and brother Tommy Lee of Hood River. She is survived by her daughter, Margi Mulligan, sons John T. Mulligan of Seattle and Mat Mulligan of Juneau, grand children Risa Murphy of Tacoma Park, Marylan and Jack and Kate Mulligan of Seattle and her sister Shirley Ekker of Hood River Oregon. Services will be in the spring and her ashes will be scattered at one of her favorite fishing spots.
