Pearl Hippah Escalanti, an elder of her people and head of her 5th generation families passed on July 30, 2013 at age 92 years old in Yuma, Arizona. Pearl was born on March 5, 1921 on the Quechan Reservation, Fort Yuma, California. She was a homemaker and worked many years as a caregiver under the NICOA program. Pearl is survived by her daughters Donna Herrera, Marilyn Dewey, and Rosalinda Dewey; six grandchildren Amy Clarice Paddock, Veronica Ruiz, Alberta Solorio, Christina Solorio, Albert Solorio Jr. and Ivanna Kelly; 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren all of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation. Brothers Jacob Escalanti, David Escalanti, both of Sells, Arizona; sisters Esther Standifier of Tucson, Arizona and Carolyn Escalanti of Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her father Benjamin Escalanti and mother Elizabeth Carr; sons Gerald Dewey and Roderick Kelly; daughter Darlene Dewey; grandsons Joseph Edward Herrera, Valerian Kelly, Julian Kelly; granddaughter Metina Kelly; Brother Ernest Cachora, Austin Escalanti; sisters Inez Cooper, Viola Escalanti and Helen Pasqual. Viewing will be held at Yuma Mortuary on Sunday, August 4, 2013, 2:00 pm. Services beginning at 3:00 pm. Tribal ceremonial rites will immediately follow at the Quechan Indian Reservation Big House. Cremation will be Monday, August 5, 2013 at 5:00 am.Pallbearers are Augustine Herrera, Aaron Juan, Dustin Jackson, Morales Escalanti, Chano Escalanti, Michael Salinas, Shawn Pasqual, Shane Pasqual, William Murrietta, Daniel Pasqual and Red Hawk Welch.
