Paul William RandDec. 18, 1932June 9, 2017A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2017 in Fernley for Paul William Rand, 84, who passed away in Reno on June 9 after a lengthy illness.Paul was born on Dec. 18, 1932 to Charles and Hildegarde Rand in Anoka, MN and graduated from high school in 1950 in Fargo, ND. He enlisted and served in both the U.S. Army (1951-52) and Air Force (1952-57), being honorably discharged from both.Paul earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno and was a CPA at Darney, Rand & Vannoy in Reno until his retirement in 1979. He took up ranching in the Yerington, NV area (3RBar Ranch) and later also worked for the DMV as an examiner for commercial drivers' licensure.He was married in 1954 to Nancy Grabeel and the couple had three children. Paul later married Lois A. (Johnson) Rand in May of 1996 and they resided in Fernley until her death June 4, 2011. He was living in Fernley at the time of his death.Paul is survived by his sons Richard (Amy) of Yerington, Larry (Sharon) of Sparks and daughter Kathleen of Sparks; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Patricia Settember of Reno; brother Jerome Rand (AZ); stepsons Hal Kleine of Washington and Michael Tallman of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Catholic Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22 in Fernley's St. Robert's Catholic Church and will be followed by a fellowship also at the church. Burial with full military honors by the Northern Nevada Veterans' Coalition is slated for 1:00 p.m. in the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.Arrangements are entrusted to Walton's - O'Brien-Rogers Funeral Home in Reno.
