Jacksonville, NC | Oscar Allen Gellenbeck, Capt. USMC Ret., 84, born on Sept. 10, 1931, in Lafayette, IN, died on May 24, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC.A graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31st at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with Chaplain Raymond Allen officiating. Military honors will be rendered.Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Leslie and Ruth Little Gellenbeck.Oscar is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther; three sons, Richard Gellenbeck of Van Wert, OH, Mark and Brian Gellenbeck of Jacksonville, NC; one daughter, Judith Elaine Parker of Machias, ME; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.He was a compassionate husband and father. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years and received the rank of Captain. Oscar served an additional ten years in the Fleet Reserve. He was very proud to be known to his military friends as a Mustang. After retirement, he worked for Bell Helicopter in Iran and La Gusta Bell in Saudi Arabia as a helicopter instructor.We will never forget him and what he meant to all of us.
