“Songbirds never say die, They Fly”

Odessa Marie Pinckney was born on November 24, 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Willis and Esther Pinckney. She answered God’s call and went to rest in his loving arms on December 2, 2020.

Odessa became a member of janes Memorial United Methodist Church at a young age under the leadership of the late Reverend Henry Nichols. Later as an adult, she became a member of Shekinah International Ministries. Under the guidance of Dr. Lorraine Dunson.

Odessa had several nick-names. she was affectionally known as. OD Marie. Songbird which came about from her singing passion and which she would later name her media company. Unfortunately, God called her home before she could see her dream flourish to its fullest potential. Later on it was Neemah, which was bestowed upon her by the two most important loves in her life, Zayna and Samiyah her granddaughters. Which when you look at them you can see her.

Odessa was educated in the public and private school system. She first attended John Wister Elementary School. From there she next attended Philadelphia Academy Christian School. It was here that Odessa would discover her talent and passion for singing. In 1984 she would receive her diploma from Germantown High School and would compete in the “Miss Germantown Contest” and put on display the talented vocals that she was bless with. She would receive a college scholarship to Cheyney University of Pennsylvania as a member of the University’s gospel choir. After college Odessa held several jobs around the city in which she loved. She was employed with Continental Bank located in Fort Washington Pennsylvania, then with the Internal Revenue Service as a processer for the federal government. The circle would become complete when she accepted employment with the School District of Philadelphia as an Assistant Teacher until health conditions caused her to leave the same school where she first attended.

Odessa had a kindred spirt and was a frontline soldier for the lord. She did not have a bad word to say about anyone. Even if that person crossed her, she would still pray for them. She was the true epitome of a Christian. She was a pleasure to be around. She was a devoted Mother, Daughter, Sister and Grandmother.

Odessa leaves to cherish in her memory, her loving son Brandon Pinckney-Harling, her parents Willis and Esther Pinckney (PA), two brothers Willis Jr.(PA), Jermaine (Nadia) Pinckney (FL), her two Granddaughters Zayna and Samiyah Harling One Niece Jordan Pinckney-Jones, Three nephews Azuriah, Uziah, Zaki and a host of family and friends.
