Norman Wendell Baer Obituary

Mar 25, 1928 - Jan 28, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Norman Baer passed over the great divide on January 28, 2017 in Loveland, Colorado. He was 88 years old. Norman was born on March 24, 1928 in Rico, Colorado and was the third child of Charles Baer and Blanche Elizabeth Baer (Lincoln). His father died in a car accident on the road between Rico and Dunton, Colorado when Norm was four years old. The family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where they lived until Norman left the family and moved to Portland, Oregon to complete High School from which he graduated in 1946. After High School he enlisted in the Army and upon discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1949 returned to Colorado and began working for the Idarado Mine in Ouray, Colorado. Norman was shift boss at the Idarado when he met and married Mary Pimm Harding in 1952. In 1955 Norm and Mary moved to Boulder, Colorado where he enrolled in the University of Colorado and was employed by the University as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer until he retired in 1983. After retirement from the University he bought and was the Chief Executive Officer of an electronics business in Boulder until his second retirement. In 1997 Norm and Mary moved to Greeley, Colorado where he lived until 2013 when he entered Aspen House in Loveland, Colorado. Norman and Mary enjoyed going to the opera in Central City and Santa Fe, trips to southwestern Colorado to visit family and friends, and traveling to places around the world that captured their imagination. Norman was preceded in death by his father, mother and three sisters (Ruth, Verna & Vivian) and his wife, Mary. He is survived by his nephew, Craig Kelso (Judy, Michael), his niece, Lynn McIntyre (Jim, Ann, David) and many friends. The family wants to share their appreciation of the wonderful staff at Aspen House, and Norm & Mary's true friends, Walt & Tara Broom who have offered so much loving support to both Norman and Mary in their last years. Norman has requested that there be no memorial after he "passes the great divide". His final celebration will be when his ashes rejoin those of the love of his life, Mary, and they are released together in their beloved Rocky Mountains. "When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." (The Prophet, Kahil Gibran, from "of Joy and Sorrow")
You can to the family or in memory of Norman Baer.
