Norma J. FreelandAugust 27, 1938 - August 10, 2017YorkNorma Jean Freeland, 78, transitioned to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Memorial Hospital. She was the companion of Curtis R. Buchanan for 60 years.Norma was born on August 27, 1938 to the late William and Ethel R. (Murray) Freeland.Norma was educated through the York City School District and worked for York International (Borg-Warner) as an assembler for 12 years. Norma was a member of Bethel AME Church for over 40 years where she sang on the Chancellor Choir and served on the Usher Board; Norma loved to cook, dance, bowl, shop, and going to the movies, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.In addition to her companion Curtis, Norma leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Rosalind Sweeney and Angela Buchanan; a son, Michael Freeland; three sisters, Linda Simpson, Roxanne Sweeney and Lorita Freeland; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family members and friends.Norma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Kirkland, Mary E. Scott, Brenda Washington; and brothers, Stephen Freeland and William Freeland.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. and a viewing will be prior to service from 9-11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 356 W.
