Sternat, Norbert "Nubby" JamesNorbert 'Nubby' James Sternat, age 81 of Oshkosh, formerly of Lomira, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira on Wednesday, May 24 at 4 p.m. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 24 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lomira. A luncheon will follow the burial at the church.Norbert was born on August 13, 1935 the son of Rudolph and Irene (Rost) Sternat in the township of LeRoy, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Caroline Feucht on November 8, 1958 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville. Norbert was a veteran of the US Army and served for two years. Nubby and Caroline owned and operated Nubby and Caroline's Bar for over 40 years in LeRoy and Lomira. Nubby was a member of Presentation Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac. He was an active member in the Dodge County Tavern League and also an active member of the Lomira Fire Department. He was also a former player/manager for the LeRoy Rock River League baseball team.Nubby was a lifelong Cubs, Brewers, and Packers fan. He also loved fishing year round, sturgeon spearing, golfing, gardening, and feeding and watching the birds. He also liked to bowl and play cribbage. Nubby would play at least one game of cribbage every morning with his wife Caroline. He was also a member of the Possum Lodge at Wendt's Marina where he would gather with friends for coffee, conversation, and the occasional fish tale. Nubby loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching their sporting events and taking them out on the boat fishing, tubing and waterskiing.Nubby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Caroline of Oshkosh. His children-Cheri (Jeff) Neitzel of Theresa, Jeanne (Robert) Valesh of St. Charles, IL, and Judy Oechsner of Eagle River. His grandchildren- Danny (Kelli) Neitzel, Elizabeth (Phil) Cook, Natalie Neitzel, Emily Neitzel, Allison Neitzel, Patrick Neitzel, Leah Valesh, Ryan Valesh, Marlena Oechsner, Dedra (John) Dettloff, Alan (Tabbitha) Oechsner and 2 great grandchildren. His brother- Jerome (Darlene) Sternat of Mayville, His sisters- Elaine (Gilbert) Geschke of Mayville, and Eunice (Ed) Krivonak of Denver, CO., His sisters in law- Mary Jane Sternat of Allenton and Patti Sternat of Lomira. His brothers in law- John (Charlene) Feucht of Hartford, Norbert (Louise) Feucht of Mayville, Jerome (Ruthanne) Feucht of Mayville, Clarence (Sharon) Feucht of Randolph, Clemens (Elaine) Feucht of Fond du Lac and Charlotte Feucht of Waupun. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Merlin, Rudolph, Earl, and Arnold.Special thanks to Van Dyne Rescue, Oshkosh Ambulance, and the staff of St. Agnes Hospital for their care and support shown to Nubby and his family.Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville is serving the family.
