Davis, Naomi "Nicki"Naomi "Nicki" Davis passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 in St. Paul, MN. Nicki was born on December 12, 1925 in Duluth, MN. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Helen Lollis Nichols. Nicki grew up in Kenosha and graduated from Wesley Memorial School of Nursing in Chicago, IL in 1947. On February 12, 1949 she married Dr. Nathan S. Davis in Kenosha. For many years Nicki and her family took medical mission vacations to Red Bird Mission, Beverly, Kentucky and the Navajo Nation Health Foundation, Ganado, AZ. She was active in many community organizations. In 1979 Nicki founded the Outreach Library Literacy Council to serve the needs of the arriving southeast Asian refugees. Her close work with the Hmong in the Lakeshore Area fueled her interest in witnessing first-hand how the Hmong fared in the refugee camps in Thailand. For eight years she visited Thailand, working as a volunteer nurse at the Dr. Tom Dooley Memorial Hospital in Nam Yao Refugee Camp and later in northern Thailand where she worked with local people rebuilding a hospital for the hill tribe people. Nicki was an active disaster volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving the local chapter as a disaster action team member as well as a national disaster transporter. In 1986 she received the National Conference of Christian and Jews Distinguished Merit Citation in recognition of her outstanding efforts to share with new Americans the ability to communicate in English. Nicki was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and received the Award of Harmony from the Barber Shoppers for her dedication to the concern of others. She was a member of the Lakeshore United Methodist Church.She is survived by four children: Mark (Jean) Davis, Susan Davis, Peter Davis, Anne Robinson; eight grandchildren: Hazel (Stephen) Hackbarth, Ben (Dao) Davis, Zachary Davis, Emily Davis, Erin Killeen, Peter Killeen, Natalie Robinson, and Daniel Robinson; six great grandchildren, two sisters: Lucy Hallager, Susan Nichols; one brother: Tim (Edeen) Nichols. She was preceded in death by her parents: Kenneth and Helen Nichols; husband: Dr. Nathan S. Davis; two brothers: Richard Nichols and Kenneth Kavrow.Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 411 Reed Avenue, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Carly Kuntz. Cremation has taken place with burial of her cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the Lakeshore United Methodist Church on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 3 p.m.Memorials may be sent to the Manitowoc Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Habitat for Humanity.
