Nancy Ida Mcspadden Robinson was born on November 29, 1927, to lolar and Samuel McSpadden in Caroladet, Missouri. Her father died when she was not quite two years old. Her
Mother did remarry. From that subsequent union, she gained four brothers and two sisters
William , Clifton ,Leroy , Bobby , Wilmar, and Bernetta, She was affectionately known to her siblings
and their families as Bunny. Nancy grew up in the St. Louis area where she attended local schools
As a teenager she took training in cosmetology.
Aner her mother had become a Seventh-day Adventist, Naney decided to attend Oakwood College,
where her plan was to major in pre-nursing. Nancy did not continue at Oakwood; however, she did meet
Beniamin Robinson, Jr. there, who later became her husband. After marriage, they chose to relocate to
Chicago, Illinois, where all five of their children were born: Gregory, Cassandra, Benjamin Ill, Patricia
and Joan.
Nancy was a long-time member of the Shiloh SDA Church in Chicago, Illinois, where she served in
many capacities including Sabbath School teacher, Youth leader, and usher.
Nancy pursued additional education, taking classes in the evening after work, so that she could advance
her career in social work. She worked for the Illinois Department of Social Services as a case manager
for about 23 years.
Over the years, Nancy enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She enjoyed time with her children at the parks
and museums in Chicago. Her grandchildren were also a source of great joy for her. She was known to
travel to their homes at the drop of a hat to render assistance or attend their important activities. She was
particularly involved with two of her daughters and their families while they endured serious illnesses.
After retirement, Nancy and Benjamin moved to Huntsville, AL. They joined the First Church of
Seventh-day Adventists and once again, she got involved. She served in many capacities and particularly
enjoyed her time as a deaconess. In her new Huntsville home, Nancy also worked for the Garden Cove
Health Food Store and Willow Run Towers.
Nancy was blessed to travel with her family to most of the fifty States and many locations internationally.
At 86 years old, she was the oldest person in her tour group to walk the streets of Old Jerusalem. She
particularly enjoyed her breakfast buffet on the Nile River while visiting Egypt.
Nancy leaves to mourn her passing: her husband of 71 years, Benjamin; her children, Gregory Robinson,
Benjamin (Renee) Robinson Ill, and Patricia Robinson-Byrd; her grandchildren, Emoni (Michelle)
Robinson, Kyaani (Donna) Robinson, Derek (LaQuita) Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Benjamin
Robinson IV, Januari (Pooka) Charles, Robert (Adrienne) Byrd, Kailah (Seth) Dejurnett, Reggie (Angel)
Coopwood, Ryan (Grace) Coopwood, and Reuben Coopwood; her great grandchildren, Quayn
Robinson, London Robinson, Adrienne Robinson, Derek Thompson, Jr. Ethan Thompson, Chloe
Thompson, Safia Robinson, Mila Robinson, Kye Robinson and Marcus Thompson; as well as numerous
nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
