Nan Nicholes Chipman Booth1920-2014Logan - Nan Booth, a woman of great elegance, grace, and dignity died Thursday of natural causes at Legacy House in Logan Utah. Nan was born on Oct 3, 1920 to Sanford Nicholes and Dorothy Chipman in Provo UT. She was raised in Salt Lake and American Fork. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1938. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1942 with degrees in Music and Elementary Education. While at BYU she was the lead in several musical productions (as she had been in high school). She was also affiliated with the Val Norn social unit. Upon graduation she was offered a Hollywood contract to sing off camera for actresses who couldn't. She joined the Tabernacle Choir as a soprano in 1942 and was the soprano in the quartet who sang at the dedication of the grave of LDS President Heber Grant. She taught school for a year and then worked for the Utah State Legislature. She married Thornton Young Booth (Ty) on Dec. 26, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Palo Alto, Calif. while Ty finished his doctorate at Stanford University. In 1953, after serving in the Korean War, Ty and Nan came to Logan. Ty taught at USU and Nan was a wife, a mother, and an involved member of the community for the rest of her life. She was an election judge, a volunteer for the arts, and a member of AC women for over 50 years. She was a member of Allied Arts and a charter member of the BC super club. She was a notable Woman of the Year for USU Women's Center. Nan was a gourmet cook and she loved entertaining, gardening, and bridge. She and dad were world travelers and enjoyed traveling with both family and friends. She will be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, survived by sons Geoff (Wilma) of Houston TX and James of Logan. Our thanks to Dr Redd, Dr. Strong, the many fine people of Legacy House of Logan, and her many friends both living and dead who made her life in Logan a joy. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 21 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20 and for one hour before the funeral service. The interment will be at the American Fork Cemetery, American Fork. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the TY and Nan Booth fund Dept. of English Utah State University. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed online at www.allenmortuaries.net.
