Hamus, MildredMildred "Millie" M. Hamus, age 91, of Colby, formerly of Unity, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Saint Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Colby. Father Charles Hiebl will officiate. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Serving as Millie's pallbearers are her grandsons: Mike Hein, Ryan Elpert, Casey Kuechenmeister, Alan, Andrew, and Aaron Hamus. Millie was born on November 14, 1925, the daughter of George and Ida (Klumb) Preising in Marshfield. She attended elementary school at West Kerwin in a one-room school house in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1944. On October 15, 1953, Millie was united in marriage to Gerald Hamus at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2016. She worked 10 years at Central State Bank in Marshfield as a bookkeeper/teller. Millie farmed with her husband in the Township of Unity for 34 years.Millie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby and involved in the PCCW. She was also a member of Unity American Legion Auxiliary #358 for 59 years where she held the office of treasurer for many years. Millie loved to bowl in her early years, go to polka dances, and loved her Statler Brothers music. She was a lifelong fan of the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers. Millie was a perfectionist at embroidery and plastic canvas crafts. She also liked to play cards, board games, and dominoes with her family and friends. Millie kept a very full calendar of ALL of her family and friends birthdays and anniversaries and never forgot to send them a card. She was especially grateful to live long enough to enjoy her 18 great-grandchildren!Mildred is survived by her seven children: Shirley (Roger) Hein of Stratford, Roger (Pat) of Unity, Ronald of Montello, Sharon Kelley of Portland, OR, Sandra (Tom) Elpert of Spencer, Russell (Cindy) of Dorchester and Susan (Leon) Kuechenmeister of Marshfield; 12 grandchildren: Jackie (Chad) Soback, Jamie (Jesse) Kulesa, Mike (Heather) Hein, Alan (Dana) Hamus, Andrew Hamus, Aaron (Amanda) Hamus, Jeremy Kelley, Rachel Kelley, Crystal (Jason) Brings, Ryan Elpert, Casey (Ashley Jacobitz) Kuechenmeister, Holly (Josh Schar) Kuechenmeister; 18 great-grandchildren: Samantha, Danielle, and Jakob Soback; Jesse James, Sophie and Caleb Kulesa, Sybella and Avery Hein; Rayna and Alia Hamus; Keira, Cutter, Rawson, and Reese Hamus; Wyatt Hamus; Rourke Elpert and Hadley and Kylus Schar. She is further survived two sisters: Doris (Clarence) Aumann and Marie (Bill) Frost, both of Marshfield and a sister-in-law, Barb Preising of Port Washington.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; her brother, Donald and a great-grandson, Trevor.Family and friends may express condolences online at www.maurinaschilling.com.
