Michael Nufer Obituary

from South bend, Indiana, United States

ANGOLA — Michael A. Nufer, 61, of Angola, Indiana, passed away on May 1, 2015, at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Indiana. Mike was born on July 18, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana, to Donald J. and Louise F. (Cebulski) Nufer and lived most of his life in Angola, Indiana. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1971. On July 1, 2005, he married his wife, Tracy (Beechy), in Las Vegas. Mike served as a state trooper for 28 years with the Indiana State Police. Mike was the trooper you wanted to show up when chaos was breaking loose, the bad guys were on the run and you needed a good shot. You could always count on Mike. Mike served the people of the state of Indiana as a trooper with dedication and honor. His years of experience and skill were relied upon by governors, the state police superintendents and his fellow officers. Mike was the president of the Indiana Troopers Association for many years. While he was president, the ITA was a successful organization that helped Troopers, underprivileged children and the families of fallen Troopers. Mike was an incredibly hard worker. While he was a Trooper and after his retirement, he owned and ran several successful businesses in northeastern Indiana. He was generous to others with his time and talent. Mike was most proud of his children. When he spoke of them and their accomplishments, which was often, he had a bent smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His love of his family was always at the heart of everything he did. Along with his wife, Tracy, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Martin, of Elkhart; son, Brian (Jennifer) Nufer of Rockledge, Florida; stepson, Taylor Mowry of Angola; five grandchildren, Lauren, Hunter and Hayden Martin and Julia and Lillian Nufer; his parents, Donald and Louise Nufer of Elkhart; two brothers, Tom (Sandra) Nufer of South Bend and David (Susan) Nufer of Granger. His brother, James Nufer, preceded him in death in 1980. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, Indiana.
