Michael Henning, age 84 of Wheatfield, passed away on Jan. 17, 2014 at his home. Michael was born on Oct. 16, 1929, in Gary to Michael and Loretta (Sonnenberg) Henning -Tetzloff, both deceased.Michael served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict. Michael attended Lew Wallace High School in Gary. Michael was married on April 24, 1954, in Gary to Janice Marquita Goodwin. She preceded him in death in 2010. Michael was employed with U.S. Steel, Gary as a Mechanical Engineer. Michael was a member of the American Legion Post #440 and the Good Fellow Club with U.S. Steel. He was an avid golfer and member of the Sandy Pines Golf Club. Michael also enjoyed playing on Katz Kittens softball team.Michael is survived by one daughter - Janice (Joseph) Roebuck of North Judson. Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.Michael was preceded in death by one daughter - Marilyn (Henning) Franciscy, one brother - Herman Henning and one sister - Rose (Henning) Rummell both of Gary.Friends called on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 10 - 11 a.m., at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte. Services took place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte, at 11 a.m. with Joseph Cunningham officiating.Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
