Edward O’Neal, 77, passed away on August 8, 2025, in University City, Missouri. Born on July 18, 1948, in Saint Louis, Missouri, Edward lived a life marked by dedication to education, community service, and family. For over five decades, Edward served as a professor of sociology, devoting 53 years to teaching and mentoring generations of students. His commitment to understanding and improving the social fabric of his community was evident not only in the classroom but also through his active involvement in local initiatives. Edward believed deeply in the power of knowledge and compassion to create lasting change. He is survived by his partner of 26 years, Karen; his daughters Kimberly and Lauren; and eight grandchildren. Edward was an amazing father, stepfather, and grandfather—roles he embraced with warmth and unwavering support. Those who knew Edward will remember him for his tireless service to others and his profound impact on both academic circles and everyday lives. His legacy lives on through the many people he taught, guided, and loved. In accordance with Edward’s wishes, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to local shelters in his memory. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
