Mellan Hayes, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on December 30, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. She was born on March 20, 1953, to John Prowell and Marsee Fleming.

Mellan leaves behind one brother Bobby Prowell, two sons, Vernon Taylor and Joe Turrell. Six grandchildren Laveatre, Darrion, Vernon Jr., Vienna, Aden and Jeremiah. 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

She attended and graduated from Vashon High School, where she excelled in her studies and made lifelong friends. Mellan had a passion for the health careers and she later went on to earn her cna certificate working with the elderly in healthcare and later in dietary at various hospitals around St. Louis.

Throughout her life, Mellan was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. She was cool and laid back with an infectious laugh and smile.

Her warmth and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her loved ones and the St. Louis community.

Rest in peace, Mellan Hayes. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
