Maxine “Mamie” White peacefully transitioned on February 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, service, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
Mamie was the definition of selflessness. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her three beloved granddaughters — Dasia, Mya, and Jada. She poured her heart into raising, guiding, and nurturing them, ensuring they always felt protected, supported, and deeply loved. To them, she was more than a grandmother — she was a safe place, a teacher, and their biggest source of comfort.
A devoted charity worker with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Mamie dedicated her professional life to uplifting underserved children and families. She worked tirelessly to provide for children in need, believing that every child deserved opportunity, dignity, and hope. Her compassion extended far beyond her own home and into the hearts of countless families in her community.
Mamie endured profound heartbreak with the recent passing of her only son, Micheal Smith, in January 2026. Though her heart carried that sorrow, she continued to embody strength and grace, holding her family together with love even in the face of loss.
She will be remembered as the most loving and caring grandmother, a woman whose kindness knew no limits. Her gentle spirit, warm embrace, and quiet strength will live on through the lives she shaped and the community she served.
Though she is no longer physically with us, her love remains stitched into the hearts of Dasia, Mya, and Jada, and all who were blessed to know her.
Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and unconditional love will never be forgotten
