We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maxine Burns, who was born on March 9, 1934, and passed away on August 3, 2025, in Newark, New Jersey, United States. She was the beloved daughter of Henry and Rita Tilley.

Maxine was married to Cliff Burns for over 30 years, both remarried. Together, they raised four children: Tina Alexis, Kyle Burns (spouse Nina Burns), Ryan Tilley (spouse Lisa Tilley), and Kenneth Tilley. She leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren: Jasmine Lewis, Ashley Little, Darius Perkins, Courtney Megargel, Kennedy Preaster, Union Burns and Jeaniyah Burns followed by great-grandchildren.

Maxine attended Wilkinson High School before furthering her education at South Carolina State University. She went on to have a successful career as a guidance counselor at Snyder High School, retiring in 2005. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Maxine was actively involved in church organizations and found great joy in helping and mentoring youth.

Maxine had a passion for teaching and dedicated much of her time to nurturing and inspiring young minds. Her unwavering support and compassionate nature touched the lives of many.

Maxine Burns will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
