This obituary is administered by:
HYRUM, Utah - Max Aldon Miller, 85, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, surrounded by his loving wife and five children. The youngest of three, he was born on Dec. 22, 1923, in Hyrum, Utah, to Lester L. and Minnie Andreasen Miller. From his early childhood he worked alongside of his father and brother in the meat industry, often going with his father to pick up livestock from local farmers. At that time, their small meat packing plant was known as L. L. Miller and Sons. The name was later changed to Tri-Miller Packing Company. Max became skilled in many trades due to construction, remodeling and ongoing maintenance at the facility. He excelled at welding, refrigeration, building construction, cement work and electrical installation. These talents contributed greatly to the success of the plant. Most of his life revolved around Tri-Miller Packing, Miller's Transport and the wonderful people who were employed there and worked with him. These loyal and dedicated people became like his second family. During his years at Tri-Miller, he was honored to serve as a board member for the Western States Meat Packers Association and was elected their president in 1975. He later served for several years as a representative on the National Livestock and Meat Board. After his retirement, the shop and greenhouse built next to his home were his pride and joy. Many hours were spent nurturing plants or designing and finishing projects for family, friends and the community. He was particularly proud of his radishes, tomatoes and geraniums. He was instrumental in the building of the Hyrum City Senior Citizen's Center and served on its board. In recent years, he enjoyed the time he spent with his friends and the staff at Angie's Restaurant. He attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from South Cache High School where he met his sweetheart, Jayne Beutler. On June 29, 1945, while Dad was on military leave, they were married in the Logan LDS Temple. Dad is survived by his wife, Jayne Miller of Hyrum; five children: Terry (Shari) Miller of Hyrum, Anita Miller of Hyrum, Angela (Casey) Fisher of North Logan, Ned (Cindy) Miller of Providence, Don (Lesa) Miller of North Ogden; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ivan Miller of Hyrum. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Rella; a brother-in-law, Thomas Griffiths; and an infant granddaughter, Corilee.Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in the Hyrum 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 111 N. 400 West, Hyrum, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North in Logan and prior to services on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Hyrum 5th Ward LDS building. Burial will be in the Hyrum City cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Salisbury and his staff for their kind and loving care of Dad, as well as those who assisted him at Sunshine Terrace and Terrace Grove and those who provided hospice care from Community Nursing Services.Although Dad has enjoyed many happy hours surrounded by the flowers in his greenhouse, the family respectfully requests that flowers not be sent, however, should anyone wish to do so, donations may be made in his name to: Hyrum Library and Museum Foundation c/o Hyrum City 83 West Main Street, Hyrum, UT 84319.
