COLUMBIA — Maurice Calvin "Cal" Rodgers Jr., 88, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Cal was born on May 8, 1929 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Maurice Calvin Rodgers Sr. and Stella Beatrice (Ramsey) Rodgers, who preceded him in death.

Cal graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1947 where he played football and baseball. He received a Football Athletic Scholarship to MU Columbia. Cal served in the United States Navy from 1953-1955 and received the National Defense Service Medal.

He was a salesman at Rodgers Pontiac, in Sedalia, MO. He also operated a Cadillac dealership in Marshall, MO, an RV sales company in Sedalia, MO and was in Real Estate for many years in Missouri.

On February 15th, 1969 Cal and Lela Marie (Burns) Norton were married in Lee's Summit, MO. Lela resides in Sedalia.

In addition to his wife, Lela, he is survived by his daughter: Connie Jo Rodgers of Liberty, MO; one grandson, Matthew Harding, two great grandsons, Cody Harding and Tahlon Harding, Kearney, MO; his sister: Frankie Roberts, Victoria, TX; four nephews: Thomas Roberts, Roger Roberts (Linda), Joseph Roberts, and Virgil Rodgers II; two nieces: Keli Rodgers and Kami (Rodgers) Brendel (Glen); five great nieces, four great nephews; one cousin: Thelma Somers, Packwood, WA; two step-sons: Jim Norton and Kenneth Norton (Debbie); four step-grandchildren: Zoe Norton, Drew Norton, Angie (Norton) Richardson (Daniel), Wade Norton (Jennifer); and nine step-great grandchildren: Matthew, Maisie, Jozy, Adam, Wayne, Brett, Aric, Gage and Elliot.

In addition to his parents, Cal was preceded in death by his brother: Virgil D. Rodgers I, his sister-in-law Ellen Rodgers, and his brother-in-law Bill Roberts.

A private family service will take place at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, MO.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Veterans Hospital Hospice Center in Columbia, MO.
