We are saddened to announce the passing of Mathis Smith, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Mathis was born on September 26, 1959, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to parents Eddie Lee Smith and Elizabeth Smith. He peacefully left this world on December 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor.

Mathis was a dedicated machine operator who took great pride in his work. When he wasn't on the job, he could be found indulging in his passion for painting and drawing. His artistic talents brought joy to all who had the pleasure of seeing his creations.

Mathis is survived by his loving wife, three children - Donald Ray Nelson, Eddie Lee Nelson, and Demarcus Nelson - and four grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
