Carbon, Mary R.Mary R. Carbon, 82, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Fort Memorial Hospital.Mary was born on February 11, 1935 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late G. Rolf and Helen (Schuette) Ristad. Mary married Edward Carbon in Manitowoc on October 1, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2010. Mary and her husband were huge Badger fans, having football season tickets for more than 60 years and attending many bowl games. They also did extensive traveling with the UW Alumni Association, making many lifelong friends. Mary also enjoyed vacationing in Door County for much of her life.While Mary was born in Manitowoc, Fort Atkinson quickly became her adopted hometown after moving there in 1961. She threw herself into getting involved in the community becoming a professional volunteer, as her daughter referred to her. She had 12,000 volunteer hours with the Hospital Auxiliary, and probably peeled at least 12,000 peanuts at the Congregational Church. She donated her time and talents to the local blood drives, the Girl Scouts and Hoard & Curtis Scout Camp. Mary was an avid Bridge player and always found time to devote herself to playing with her Bridge Club.Mary is survived by her daughter, Kris (Paz Salas) Carbon of Chicago, IL; sister, Karen (Bill) Puchner; nieces, Ann Szekely and Mary Nelson and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at First Congregational Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until time of service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County or the Hoard & Curtis Scout Camp.The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family. www.dunlapmemorialhome.comA very special thank you to the hospital, doctors, nurses, cna's and physical therapists for the wonderful care she received.
